responsibilityIn the last couple of weeks I have noticed an ad in the newspaper: Free - two guinea pigs with cage and accessories. Being a guinea pig fan I called the number and talked to the lady. Apparently another neighbour had purchased two guinea pigs as pets for his sons and they lost interest in them. They remained in a cage in a closet for awhile and then the neighbour's kid, who happened to be visiting, heard the Dad say he was tired of the pets and was going to throw them in a snowbank! Go figure. The kid told mommy and they rescued the two animals. Due to asthma and allergies in the family they could not keep the piggies so into the paper went this ad. The Mom had checked out all of those responding, trying to find a good home for these two piggies that she had come to adore. I entered the picture, having a long relationship with guinea pigs and having one of my own at present. She checked me out, bringing them over for me to see as well. The result, I have two more, lovable little girls in my family and we are all quite happy with the new arrangement.
The thing is - how could anyone want to throw their pet in a snowbank to get rid of it? Couldn't they have just given them away to someone who would look after them? I guess that was just too much effort. I know people abuse animals all the time and there are horror stories that I don't even want to know about. We got our dog from the local humane society. This unwanted animal has turned out to be the greatest pet we could ever want - but then I am a dog fan too. All I can say is, if you don't want your pet, give it to someone who does. Save it from needless suffering and let it live the life God gave it in security.
